Spring Garden Township Police are reminding residents not to give out personal information over the phone in light of a possible scam.
A resident received a phone call Saturday from someone claiming to work for Home Depot. The caller asked for the resident's social security number in order to verify his store account, police said.
The resident later called Home Depot and was told employees do not ask for that information over the phone, police said.
Police encourage residents not to give out personal information through the mail, over the phone or over the Internet unless they initiated the contact or know who they are dealing with.
Anyone who may have received a similar phone call or who has information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Keith Lightner at 843-0851 or through sgtpd.org.
