The state's Department of Agriculture conducts yearly inspections of food-serving establishments to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.

Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, issues with chemicals and how they're handled, and employee hygiene.

Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.

Below is a list of establishments listed for inspections conducted April 18-April 24.

OUT OF COMPLIANCE

Parma Pizza and Grill, 905 Grantley Road, York.

Action: Violations included a plastic container without handles being used as a scoop and stored in sauce inside the walk-in refrigerator; food employees not wearing proper hair nets or beard covers in food preparation areas; marinara sauce, bowtie pasta salad, chicken pasta salad and panini style deli sandwiches held 5 degrees below or above proper temperatures; thermometers not available in food preparation areas; light accumulation of static dust on the ceiling inside the walk-in refrigerator; handwashing sink also used for food debris and utensils; unsealed concreate in the kitchen; and light inside walk-in refrigerator not shatterproof or properly shielded from breakage.

Comment: Owner Anthony Sottasante said all violations have been corrected.
