The list of campaign donors in the 4th Congressional District reads like a Who's Who of York County, with top executives and well-known community members funding their favorite candidates.
As in previous years, Louis Appell Jr., chairman of Susquehanna Real Estate, is a top donor in the 2012 race, giving thousands to three of seven Republican candidates.
Candidates got big financial boosts from executives at other companies, such as Kinsley Construction, Glatfelter paper
company and Rutter's Farm Stores.
Members of the state's House of Representatives weighed in on the race, as did county officials.
Details: York County Register of Wills Brad Jacobs and Clerk of Courts Don O'Shell supported state Rep. Scott Perry, R-Dillsburg, instead of their county colleague, Commissioner Chris Reilly.
And Scott Wagner, president and CEO of Penn Waste, chose to support Reilly over Perry, though Penn Waste is a supporter of the 912 Patriots, of which Perry is a member.
And while retiring incumbent Rep. Todd Platts pledged never to take money from political action committees, or PACs, the race's two apparent frontrunners -- Reilly and Perry -- accepted thousands from groups representing everything from the insurance and oil industries to the National Rifle Association and Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
The maximum contribution a candidate can receive from an individual is $2,500, with a $5,000 maximum from political action committees.
