An infamous sinkhole on Route 30 in West Manchester Township is slated to be repaired.

The state Department of Transportation will be paving the westbound right shoulder Monday in preparation of fixing the noticeable sinkhole, said Mike Crochunis, PennDOT spokesman.

The right lane of Route 30 westbound near the Route 74 off-ramp at the West Manchester Mall will be restricted to traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews pave the shoulder.

Subsequent patching work to temporarily fix the road due to the sinkhole will follow the paving project at an undetermined date.

Void: PennDOT crews filled a "void" under the concrete pavement that was discovered in December.

Crews were following up on a stress crack that was discovered in one of the concrete slabs. The crew also noticed that the slab moved slightly when trucks drove over it.

During the investigation, workers drilled several holes into the pavement and inserted a small video camera. What the crew found was a roughly 3c -foot-deep by 5- or 6-foot-wide void.

Crews filled the void with fillable flow (which is a concrete mixture) as a quick repair.

The next major project planned for that portion of Route 30 is a restoration project slated to begin in 2014. It does not yet include any corrective action to the ground support of the highway.
