The York College softball team managed a doubleheader split on Thursday afternoon against Misericordia in Dallas, Pa.

The Spartans won the first game 4-3 behind a complete-game effort from pitcher Brittany Therres, who didn't allow an earned run. She struck out one, walked two and allowed eight hits.

Therres also excelled at the plate in the opener with three hits, including a homer, to go with two RBIs and a run scored. Hannah Hugel added two hits, including a triple, and a run scored for York. Sara Thacker also homered for the Spartans.

York lost the second game, 14-5. Therres started again, but was roughed up for six earned runs in three innings.

Cory Urkuski had two hits and an RBI for York in the second game, while Thacker homered and had two RBIs and two runs scored.

York fell to 11-17 overall, while Misericordia improved to 18-12.

SPARTANS LOSE IN MEN'S TENNIS: The York College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 non-league decision at Dickinson College on Thursday. Dickinson improved to 7-6, while York fell to 7-7. Philip Myers got York's only win at No. 3 singles in three sets.
