A cigar tossed from a passing vehicle set alight a wooded lot in Conewago Township on Tuesday.

Steve Tawney, chief of Strinestown Fire Department, said the cigar was found where the fire originated along Sheep Bridge Road near Bremer Road.

Five fire departments were dispatched to the blaze, which was reported just after 1 p.m. Crews cleared the scene about 3:30 p.m., Tawney said.

A little over an acre of underbrush burned, as did some trees. No injuries were reported.

Wind plagued the efforts of firefighters at times.

"The wind makes it (the fire) travel faster than you can walk," Tawney said.
