These York County municipalities have banned open fires because of dry conditions:

* Chanceford Township has issued a burn ban, in effect until dry conditions improve, the township said Tuesday. Residents are prohibited from any type of open burning, but cooking on grills is still allowed. Call 927-6401 with questions.

* Conewago Township issued a burn ban Wednesday that takes effect immediately and until further notice. The ban prohibits all types of outdoor fires.

* Dover Township will enact a burn ban at 5 a.m. Thursday. The ban prohibits all types of open fires and outdoor burning and is in effect for 30 days or until the township lifts it.

* East Hopewell Township has instituted a burn ban that will remain in effect until conditions improve. All open burning is prohibited, but cooking grills are still permitted. Call 993-6529 with questions.

* Felton also announced a ban on open fires, beginning Tuesday. Anyone with questions is asked to call the borough office at 717-246-6493.

* Jackson Township issued a burn ban Wednesday that takes effect immediately and until further notice. The ban prohibits all types of outdoor fires.

* Lower Windsor Township on Monday issued a burn ban that is in effect until further notice. The ban forbids burning of any kind in the township. That includes open burning outdoors and in burn barrels as well as recreational burning, such as campfires and bonfires, according to its website.

* New Salem has banned the open burning of any materials outdoors for one month beginning Tuesday.

* North Codorus Township also declared a burn ban, according to township manager Mark Derr. Call 225-4812 with questions.

* Paradise Township issued a burn ban Wednesday that takes effect immediately and until further notice. The ban prohibits all types of outdoor fires.

* Seven Valleys has banned all burning of any material outdoors until further notice.

* Shrewsbury Township has issued a burn ban that is in effect until further notice. All open burning is banned.

* Windsor Township has declared a fire emergency banning all open, outdoor fires until further notice, according to township manager Jennifer Gunnet.

* York Township Tuesday declared a burn ban until further notice, according to township manager Elizabeth Heathcote. The ban prohibits anyone in the township from igniting or feeding an open fire.
