A man told officers he was shot early Sunday morning while walking home from a friend's house.

William Conner of the 600 block of West Market Street said he was struck from behind about 1:55 a.m. and fell to the ground while in the 500 block of West Mason Avenue, near the intersection of West Market and West streets, York City Police said.

After Conner fell to the ground, his attacker shot him in the upper right thigh, police said.

His injuries were not life-threatening, according to police, who said Conner told officers he doesn't know the shooter.

Police are also investigating a report of gunfire near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and North Beaver Street early Sunday morning.

About 2:20 a.m., officers were called to the intersection for a report of a hit-and-run crash, but the vehicle's occupants had fled the scene.

A witness told officers the occupants had been firing shots at another vehicle before the accident, police said.
