The York Revolution's 2012 roster is starting to take shape.

With the offseason drawing to a close, the Revs added three more players on Thursday, acquiring outfielders Michael Hernandez and Stephen Douglas, along with infielder Joe Spiers.

The Revs acquired Hernandez (Somerset Patriots) and Spiers (Lancaster Barnstormers) from Atlantic League opponents, each for a player to be named later.

The Revs now have 24 players -- 11 position players and 13 pitchers -- under contract with just more than one week remaining before players report for Atlantic League spring training.

Atlantic League teams can open the regular season with up to 27 players until rosters have to be cut down to 25 by the end of May. York might add a few more pitchers before its spring training begins on April 14. Revs' manager Andy Etchebarren has said previously he would like to enter spring training with as many as 16 pitchers. However, York baseball operations manager Andrew Ball said Thursday the team feels comfortable with its current crop of players.

"It's one of those things where we're always still looking to upgrade the roster anywhere we can," Ball said. "We feel confident with where we're at right now."

Outfield: The addition of Hernandez and Douglas now gives York four solid outfielders, joining James Shanks and Scott Grimes. Shanks and Grimes started most of York's games last season in left field and center field, respectively.

Hernandez, 28, has put up solid numbers when playing at Sovereign Bank Stadium over the past three seasons in the Atlantic League. In a combined 20 career games at York, Hernandez has batted .416 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs, six doubles, a triple and 15 runs scored.

A former prospect of the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets, Hernandez batted .272 with nine homers and 45 RBIs in 80 games for Somerset last season.

Douglas has presented similar problems for the Revs' pitching in the past. The 26-year-old joined the Barnstormers late last season after coming over from the independent American Association.

Facing York in the Atlantic League Freedom Division Championship Series a year ago, Douglas batted .529 with a homer and three doubles. In a total of four regular-season games and five postseason games with the Barnstormers, Douglas accumulated a .419 batting average.

A former first-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians in 2006, Douglas spent just two years in the Indians' farm system and has played in the independent ranks ever since. In 99 combined games split between American Association clubs El Paso and Grand Prairie in 2011, Douglas batted .378 while racking up a league-record 160 hits. He also set a league record with a 34-game hitting streak, which was part of league-record 56-game on-base streak.

Infield: The addition of Spiers gives York five infielders, joining first baseman Chris Nowak, shortstop Danny Gonzalez, third baseman Ramon Castro and utility infielder Liu Rodriguez, who will serve as a player-coach this season.

Spiers, 26, was an all-star in the independent Frontier League last year for the Evansville Otters, where he batted .323 with five homers and 50 stolen bases, the second-highest total in the league. The Barnstormers had originally signed Spiers, a former Braves prospect, in late March before shipping him to York in Thursday's trade.
