PHILADELPHIA - Police have charged a 16-year-old Philadelphia boy with killing his mother with a hammer.
Homicide Sgt. Tim Cooney tells the Philadelphia Daily News the teen faces charges including murder and abuse of a corpse. Cooney says the boy fatally beat his mother with a hammer and a piece of a chair then dragged her body into an alley and covered it with debris.
Investigators say the teen had called police on Saturday to report his mother missing. Her body was found Monday morning after police say they searched her South Philadelphia home and discovered a blood trail leading outside.
Police did not release the identity of the teen or his 37-year-old mother.
