GREAT MONTH: The Dow Jones industrial average rose 278 points, its second-biggest gain this year, to close out the second quarter. The S&P 500 rose 4 percent in June, its best month since February and its strongest June since 1999.
OIL, EURO SURGE: The price of crude oil and the euro both surged as investors bet that Europe would get its financial house in order. Stocks jumped 4.3 percent in Germany and the price of crude surged 9 percent, its biggest one-day increase in more than three years.
