The store windows along Beaver Street are a little brighter thanks to a new marketing effort by York Wallcoverings.
As a manager and interior designer at the company's Factory Store, DeAnna Hain said she's trying to share an important message in a creative way.
"This isn't your grandmother's wallpaper," she said.
The covered boards in store windows along Beaver Street are a way to attract younger consumers to the Factory Store at 201 Carlisle Ave., Hain said.
"Those customers who have used wallpaper in their homes for decades will continue to come to the store. It's that younger audience we want to see the fun, stylish prints," she said.
The prints are no longer stripes and color patterns.
"People today don't want that cookie-cutter style. They now want more personality in their space," Hain said.
"So cool": Businesses on Beaver Street were asked to pick a pattern that suits their store's personality, and the owner of Sweet Melissa's Dream received her vintage floral design Thursday morning.
"It's so cool. I really like art nouveau, and I love nature," said Melissa Grove, owner of the shop at 51 N. Beaver St.
Caroline Morris, owner of Kimman's at 57 N. Beaver St., chose a salmon-colored print with navy peacocks.
"I love the partnership with (York Wallcoverings). Their customers are my customers too," she said.
Customers at Arthur & Daughters at 49 N. Beaver St. have been asking owner Hilary Arthur if she painted the red accents on her mostly-black-and-white print. But she explains the wallpaper was made that way at York Wallcoverings.
"It's the perfect blend of vintage and modern," Arthur said. "It's a nice addition to our store."
Across the street, the wallpaper in the window looks as though it was made specifically for Park Street Pantry at 24 N. Beaver St.
"The shades on the paper are an exact match to the store's color scheme," said co-owner Beth Bulik.
But she favors the bigger message the wallpaper reveals.
"This is another example of local businesses supporting other local businesses," Bulik said.
