On Sunday, Hoss's Steak & Sea House in West Manchester Township will hold a benefit for one of its employees.
For every customer who mentions the benefit, the restaurant will donate a percentage of its proceeds to Candy Martin, a longtime associate who must leave her job to have major surgery.
For the first $1,000 in sales on Sunday, Hoss's will donate 20 percent to Martin; any more than that, and the restaurant will give 25 percent.
Martin, 41, of Dover Township is a single mother with a 15-year-old daughter, and she will have a hysterectomy to treat tumors on her uterus Oct. 28, said her mother, Fran Rouscher.
The procedure will leave her out of work for at least eight weeks, she said.
A server at Hoss's for about 20 years, Martin works between six and seven days a week, Rouscher said.
"She does totally support her daughter," she said.
The mother-daughter duo is part of the York Revolution Fan Club, which is trying to round up as many people as it can to support one of its own, said president Donna Monfelt.
"It's kind of like paying it forward," she said. "And (Martin) and her family do a lot for that fan club, and we as a fan club want to support her."
