Schindler Elevator Corp. is preparing to work from its new building in Hanover.
The corporation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in October to celebrate its new manufacturing facility at 21 Industrial Drive, a 23-acre site in the Penn Township Industrial Park in Hanover.
At that site, the New Jersey-based company is constructing a new 220,000-square-foot facility.
Now, Schindler Elevator Corp. is leasing a 93,778-square-foot facility on 9 acres at 14 Barnhart Drive.
The five-year lease was signed with Penntown Properties in July and began Aug.1, according to Kim Hoskins, Schindler's spokeswoman.
The facility will be used as a warehouse for Supply Chain Personnel and North American Logistics operations, as well as other Schindler Elevator business activities, Hoskins said in a statement.
Offices, information technology systems and other building features are being upgraded to accommodate Schindler's operations, she said.
The company plans to start using the facility in September with about 50 to 60 employees, most of them transfers from the corporation's facilities in Gettysburg and McSherrystown, both in Adams County.
"We have several open salaried positions that we are recruiting for right now," Hoskins said.
Schindler is the U.S. arm of the Switzerland-based Schindler Group, which first announced in January that it would close its Gettysburg plant and relocate.
