PPL Electric Utilities customers will soon see a slight increase in their bills.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission on Thursday approved the company's request to issue a new charge.

A distribution system improvement charge will take effect July 1 and will add 20 cents to the average customer's bill, according to a PPL news release.

The increase will recover costs associated with capital investments throughout its distribution system to improve service, the company said.

PPL will invest more than $135 million in new facilities and equipment this year and more than $700 million throughout 2017, according to the release.
