A Camp Hill ranch plans to hold its first outdoor expo in York with plans to draw hundreds of vendors and thousands of attendees from around the country.

Keystone Valley Ranch will hold its Keystone Outdoor Expo from Friday, Aug. 16, to Sunday, Aug. 18, at the York Expo Center's Toyota Arena, 334 Carlisle Ave. in West Manchester Township.

"We chose the Toyota Arena in York because it's one of the nicest facilities around," said Richard Huff, who co-owns the ranch with Ian Beal. "It has a large parking area enclosed from the outside. There are a lot of highways that (lead into) York.

At least 150 vendors, from as far as Wisconsin, are expected to participate in the expo, he said. Up to 20,000 people are expected to attend the event, including those from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, he said.

Huff said he wants to give hunters as many opportunities as possible to get the gear and equipment they need for hunting season in the fall.

"We go to a lot of sports and outdoor shows throughout the country, and the best shows are in the late summer and July and August in the south," he said. "There's no show in the northeast that late. We're coming a month away from hunting season, so it seems like the right time to do (the expo)."

Guns: The expo will feature hunting, camping and fishing gear, with no gun restrictions. Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines will be allowed, Huff said.

"If it's legal, I'm not going to prevent anyone from displaying them," he said.

In January, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show - scheduled for February - was cancelled after its organizers' ban on assault weapons triggered a backlash and vendor boycott.

The ban was announced shortly after the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

However, Huff said Keystone Outdoor Expo's focus is on the total hunting, fishing, camping and hiking experience and offers attendees opportunities to see a variety of displays, including hammocks, tents, recreational vehicles and fishing gear.

Widening the draw: The expo also will offer seminars on fishing and camping, as well as activities for youth and informational sessions concerning women and the outdoors, Huff said.

"We want to draw more women to the outdoor shows," he said. "The idea is to not only have men, but to have something for the wives and children and for women in general."

Holding the expo in York would benefit the local economy, drawing consumers from around the country to fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor shops owned by area vendors, Huff said.

"It gives (vendors) a chance to get in front of an audience they wouldn't normally get," he said.
