In York County, four assisted living and Alzheimer's care facilities have been recognized for their excellence in service.

Based on consumer ratings and reviews posted in the Caring.com Senior Care Directory in the past year, 383 assisted living and Alzheimer's centers in 40 states were named "Caring Stars of 2013," a news release said.

Broadmore Senior Living at York, Country Meadows of York, Country Meadows -- Leader Heights, and Elmcroft of Dillsburg made the list of Caring Stars.

The providers named as Caring Stars represent the top 1.2 percent of more than 31,000 senior care providers in the nation, the release said.

Providers had to receive three or more reviews between Dec. 15, 2011, and Dec. 1, 2012, to qualify, with at least one review being a five-star rating and an overall average rating above four stars.

The Caring Stars of 2013 are given a badge of recognition in Caring.com's assisted living or Alzheimer's care directories.

Google searches for assisted living typically rise 20 percent in January, as families seek assisted living options once the holidays have wound down, the release said.
