Each Saturday in December, Shank's Mare, 2092 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, will host Give and Give Back, a partnership with local organizations that will present programs to highlight their work in the community. The public is welcome to drop in any time during these informal sessions.
All day, 5 percent of the day's purchases will be donated to that organization. Featured organizations and dates are:
* Saturday: Mitzi Eaton, Birds of Prey, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eaton is a rehabilitator specializing in birds of prey. Visitors to Shank's Mare will have the opportunity to meet some of Eaton's "teaching" birds and learn about her commitment to these unique animals.
* Dec. 8: Unique Pictures with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will benefit the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper. Kids, adults, and even dogs are welcome to have their pictures taken with Santa in his specially outfitted river kayak. At the same time, learn about the efforts of the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper as a watchdog of our waterway.
* Dec. 15: Indian Steps Museum and the Conservation Society of York County from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The staff of Indian Steps Museum, located along the river in southern York County, will have artifacts from the museum on display, and museum staff can answer all your questions about the collection housed at Indian Steps.
* Dec 22: Plant a Winter Salad Garden with the Horn Farm Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Horn Farm Center and their Grounded, Green & Growing mission will teach you how growing greens indoors not only perks up your winter salads, but it can also be a conversation starter with your child or grandchild about where our food comes from.
