Hair loss is one of the hard parts of cancer treatment that can actually be made a little bit easier.
Any woman who is experiencing hair loss as the result of cancer treatment can receive one brand new wig and two turbans free through the American Cancer Society.
And now women in York have two locations to choose from when selecting their wig.
A second free Wig Boutique in York County is now open at the Talus -- A Therapeutic Salon, 1288 Greensprings Drive.
Wigs were previously only available at the American Cancer Society office at 924 Colonial Ave.
Women may set up an appointment at the new shop. An assortment of wigs will be available to choose from, and stylists will style the wig according to each person's face to make it look as natural as possible, said Carol Miller, health initiatives representative for the American Cancer Society.
"We have increasing number of requests for wigs, so we wanted to spread it throughout the county," Miller said.
Scarves and head coverings are available at the boutique in addition to wigs.
"It really is a service that we want people to be aware of and take advantage of, because going through that cancer journey is hard enough without this kind of support," Miller said.
The new boutique offers wig fittings by appointment only, and the original wig boutique at the American Cancer Society accepts both walk-ins and appointments
from Monday through Friday.
People who are interested in donating hair to be used in the wigs should talk to their stylist, who can contact the American Cancer Society to have the hair sent to an organization like Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which makes the wigs for the American Cancer Society.
