New salon

A full-service hair salon will celebrate its grand opening this week amid the city's First Friday activities.

Beautiful Blessings & Beyond, owned and operated by Kenyatta Echols, will open its doors at 4 p.m. Friday for a ribbon cutting with Mayor Kim Bracey.

From its 23 E. King St. address, the salon will offer hair treatments including relaxing, perming, coloring, natural styling and the Chi Straightening System.

The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays. Additional hours will be Mondays and Tuesdays by appointment only.

SPRINGETTSBURY

Giant remodel

The five-month remodel of Giant Food Stores in Springettsbury Township is complete.

Featuring a new Beer Garden and Eatery, which opened in late May, the grocery hub at 2415 E. Market St. has expanded its product selection and revamped several departments, including produce, deli, meat, seafood, health and beauty, dairy and frozen foods. A sushi bar has been added.

The store's natural and organic section, Nature's Promise Marketplace, has also been expanded to include more than 2,500 frozen, dairy, grocery and special diet selections. Additionally, the gluten-free area of that department has been expanded 16 feet.

Customers may also notice Shopping Solutions kiosks, which enable shoppers to check BonusCard savings offers, print coupons, locate store items and place deli orders.

The store is open 24 hours daily.

Casino revenue

PHILADELPHIA -- Gross revenue from slot machines rose 5.5 percent for the fiscal year that just ended, according to state figures, with tax revenue generated by casinos up 4.8 percent to $1.3 billion.

The state's 11 casinos brought in gross slots revenue of nearly $2.5 billion for the fiscal year that ended June 30, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Figures released this week include revenue from the state's newest casino, Valley Forge Casino Resort, which opened March 31 and has generated $11.8 million in gross slots revenue so far. Slots revenue from the 10 existing casinos, meanwhile, was up 4.5 percent, with eight reporting increases compared to the previous fiscal year.
