Springetts store coming

New Orleans-based Smoothie King is coming to Springettsbury Township.

The smoothie maker is moving forward with building plans at 2609 E. Market St., according to John Holman, township manager.

Katherine Meariman, spokeswoman for Smoothie King, did not return a call to request for comment, but township officials said they expect the new store to open "later this summer."

Minneapolis-based Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar and Fort Worth, Texas-based Chick-fil-A are also moving into the York Mall corridor later this year, and Holman said it's all good news for the township and area residents.

"It certainly brings jobs," he said.

The addition of Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-A and Smoothie King may bring about 300 jobs to the area, based on previous reports and corporate information found on company websites.

"They bring employment not only to our residents, but also those in the surrounding communities," Holman said. "It helps maintain a strong economic position for the township and county."

New paper facility

Penn Township is getting a new business on its roster.

New Oxford-based Yazoo Mills Inc., a paper manufacturer, is building a 45,000-square-foot warehouse and manufacturing plant in Hanover.

County records show the company bought property on Gitts Run Road from SRS Leasing for $500,000.

Troy Eckert, Yazoo president, did not return multiple calls about the new facility, but according to the company's website, Yazoo planned to break ground this month and complete the project by December.

The expansion will enable Yazoo's customers to have an expanded level of same-day and next-day services, according to the website.

Construction plans include "the most modern building design available in the market place today" and will mark Yazoo's 110th anniversary, according to the website.

HARRISBURG INT'L AIRPORT

Busiest quarter since '05

Harrisburg International Airport on Wednesday reported a 5.2 percent increase in passenger traffic for March.

March was the third consecutive month of boosted passenger traffic, with 114,121 travelers using the facility.

The airport wrapped up its busiest quarter since 2005, hosting 308,029 passengers throughout the first three months of the year.

"The combination of good winter weather, increased service and record passenger traffic to Orlando generated strong results during the first quarter," said Fred Sembach, member of the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority board of directors.

"The airlines earned more bookings to important business destinations like Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte and Detroit during the quarter as well. The only first quarter decrease was the 1 percent decline in cargo tonnage," Sembach said.
