After one marketing group failed to live up to its agreement with the West York Area School District, district officials have recommended another company that says it can secure between $80,000 and $104,000 per year in corporate sponsorships for the district.
The district has had a non-exclusive contract with School Sports Media, LLC since June 19, 2012, said business manager George Fike at the board meeting last week.
But the company has failed to provide the district with monthly reports about the work toward securing advertisers for the district, Fike said. Numerous emails and phone calls to check in with the company have gone unreturned, Fike said.
Because the contract allows the district to enlist other companies at the same time, Fike said the district would like to enter into a new three-year contract with Market Street Sports Group LLC to begin in the upcoming year.
"They are an exceptionally active group," Fike said.
Potential investments: The school board voted to approve a new contract with Market Street Sports Group at Tuesday's board meeting.
In preliminary meetings with district administrators, the group said it could maybe secure sponsorships of about $104,000 for the upcoming years. With pending construction that would take out some of the options near the stadium, the group said it could still get about $80,000 for the district with remaining areas for posting sponsorships.
"When you start thinking $80,000, that's a teacher," Fike said.
The district should ensure that the new company and school-affiliated organizations, including the West York Area Education Foundation, aren't asking the same companies to spend money multiple times to the same school, said board vice president Todd Gettys.
Superintendent Emilie Lonardi said she plans to follow up with the company to see what type of companies the group will be looking to attract.
