York City fire and police officials are investigating a Friday-morning blaze that damaged two homes and has been ruled arson.
"We feel someone intentionally set this fire," York City Fire Chief David Michaels said.
Firefighters were called to 119 N. West St. at 12:25 a.m., he said. Flames spread to a second home as well.
"The fire blew out a window of 119, crossed the breezeway and spread to 115," Michaels said.
No one was hurt, but two adults and a child were displaced from 115 N. West St., the chief said. It appears at least one person was displaced from 119 N. West St. as well.
"We know there was one (person) living at 119, but we weren't able to talk to her because she wasn't on the scene," Michaels said.
No fried fish: Crews had the two-alarm blaze under control in about an hour, and even saved two pets, according to the chief.
"The girl who lives at 115 was worried about her goldfish," Michaels said, so a firefighter retrieved the girl's fishbowl for her.
"They were fine," the chief said.
Michaels described damage to 119 N. West St. as significant, but noted the building is salvageable.
"There is a lot of fire damage to the third floor, and water damage from the third floor down through the rest of the house," he said.
There is some fire damage to the third floor of 115 N. West St., but the family will be able to return after some repairs are made, according to Michaels.
He estimated total damage for both homes at $125,000.
Probe ongoing: York City detectives will be assisting city fire investigators in probing the cause of the blaze, the chief said.
"We took some samples of debris and will send them to a (crime) lab," he said. "They'll be examined for any accelerants."
The York-Adams Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family at 115 N. West St. by providing food, clothing, cleaning supplies, blankets and other items.
