A Red Lion man who had been allowed to remain free pending sentencing on his child pornography conviction has been arrested for allegedly poaching a deer.

Because Brandon Urey is a convicted felon, it is illegal for him to possess guns, according to charging documents filed by Wildlife Conservation Officer Shawn Musser of the state Game Commission.

Urey, 29, of 240 W. Broadway, remains in York County Prison on $15,000 bail, charged with being a felon in illegal possession of a firearm, poaching, agricultural crop destruction, agricultural vandalism, illegally taking/possessing game, hunting without a license and failing to attach a hunting tag to big game.

As Musser arrested Urey on Wednesday night, Urey told him, "You ain't getting any of these f—ing charges to stick, f— you," charging documents state.

The allegations: On Wednesday night, state police were called to a field near the 4000 block of Old Bridgeville Road in Chanceford Township for a report of a man who poached a deer while hunting on an all-terrain vehicle, documents state. A witness told police two people were riding the ATV.

Troopers found the ATV and a rifle and case hidden in the weeds next to the field, and at 8:30 p.m. called in Musser, according to documents.

Troopers spotted Urey in the area but let him go after he told them he had been fishing with friends on the Susquehanna River and was walking back to his father's home, documents state.

Musser and a state trooper found damage to a corn crop caused by the ATV and followed that damage to another portion of the field, where they found blood on the ground and drag marks, documents state.

What family said: Musser went to the nearby Kaiser Road home of one of Urey's family members to ask about the incident, and the female family member confirmed Urey had been riding her ATV but failed to return it, documents state.

When asked who killed the deer, she refused to say, according to documents.

But the woman's husband and another family member confirmed Urey borrowed one of their guns to kill the deer, at which point the female family member also told Musser that Urey killed the deer, documents state.

Musser went to Urey's Red Lion home, but he refused to come outside, officials said.

His wife then arrived home and convinced Urey to come outside, documents state.

Urey denied poaching a deer and denied riding an ATV, documents state. It was at that point he made the comment that Musser wouldn't be able to make the charges "stick," documents state.

Child porn: Urey pleaded guilty April 24 to seven counts of possessing child pornography and is scheduled to be sentenced July 28, court records state. He also is awaiting sentencing on a marijuana-possession case.

At a bail hearing on Monday for both cases, Common Please Judge Gregory M. Snyder remanded Urey to county prison "until further notice from the court." That means even if he posts his $15,000 bail he cannot be released.

Attorney John Bergdoll IV, who represents Musser, declined immediate comment.
