HARRISBURG - Gov. Tom Corbett is attacking opponents of legislation he supports to pare back public pension benefits and saying they're unable to stand up to public employee labor unions.
Corbett also Wednesday said it was disappointing that opponents used a procedural vote to stall the legislation and he demanded another vote on it.
Corbett's comments to reporters came as lawmakers wait to see whether he will sign a $29.1 billion budget bill on his desk.
Senate Democratic floor leader Jay Costa counters that the pension bill isn't fiscally responsible and it won't provide school districts any immediate savings.
Meanwhile, House Speaker Sam Smith, who supports the pension legislation, is ordering another vote to try to revive the pension bill. Democrats oppose the bill and accused Smith of ignoring House rules.
