UPDATE:

Sgt. Chad Martin of Hanover Police said officers are still investigating what led up the physical altercation that led to the fatal shooting of Shawn Jarvis.

Police are speaking with witnesses, he said.

When alleged shooter Colin Andrew Hafer was arrested just after the shooting, he had an empty gun holster on his waistband. Officers recovered at the scene the gun believed to have been used in the shooting, Martin said.

Hafer, of Harrisburg, has a license to carrying a concealed weapon in the state, Martin said.

UPDATE:

An autopsy Friday morning at Allentown's Lehigh Valley Hospital determined Shawn Jarvis died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the York County Coroner's Office which has ruled his death a homicide.

REPORTED EARLIER:

Hanover Police charged a Harrisburg man with homicide for Friday night's fatal shooting of Shawn Jarvis.

Colin Andrew Hafer, 24, of 5026 Virginia Ave, Apt. B, remains in York County Prison without bail, according to prison records.

Police said the shooting happened as Hafer and Jarvis, 20, of Hanover, were physically fighting on Center Square about 8:10 p.m.

A police officer who was in the area shortly after the shooting detained Hafer after being alerted by people at the scene, police said.

Hafer was found wearing an empty holster on his waistband when he was arrested, according to his charging documents.

Hafer later admitted to pulling out a semi-automatic pistol and shooting Jarvis, police said.

Jarvis was taken to York Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 9 p.m., according to the York County Coroner's Office. An autopsy will be performed Monday morning.

It is not known if Hafer has retained an attorney.

Hanover Police were assisted at the scene by the Penn Township Police, the York County District Attorney's Office and fire personnel from Hanover and Penn Township.
