A small portion of Route 124 south of East Prospect Borough will close Monday morning for about three weeks so PennDOT crews can repair the bridge over Cabin Creek.
The Lower Windsor Township bridge's deteriorating wing wall — which supports the road surface and bridge structure — must be repaired, according to Mike Crochunis, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation. Other repairs will be done as well, he said.
Route 124, known as Abel Road south of the borough and East Prospect Road west of the borough, will be closed between Circle Drive and Forge Hill Road starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Crochunis said.
Road signs will be placed at Route 124's intersections with Nursery Road and Main Street, as well as at the intersection of Route 124 and Craley Road (Route 624).
The planned detour is Long Level Road (Route 624) to Hellam Street (Route 462) in Wrightsville, to Cool Creek Road, then to Nursery Road, and vice-versa, Crochunis said.
The bridge is expected to reopen around July 11, he said.
An average of 2,266 vehicles travel that section of Route 124 daily, according to Crochunis.
