A Dover Township man is dead after a shooting incident in York City early Monday morning.

York City Police officers were sent to the first block of North Pershing Avenue, near the York City School District administration building, about 2 a.m. Monday for a report of shots fired and found the mortally wounded man lying on the sidewalk, police said.

Emmanuel Morales, 30, of Long Meadow Drive was pronounced dead at the scene, according the York County Coroner's Office.

The death "appears as though this was related to a gunshot injury," said Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley.

However, police are awaiting the results from a pathologist to determine the exact manner of death, said York City Police Chief Wes Kahley.

In the meantime, police continue to investigate, the chief said.

All such deaths are treated as homicides until proven otherwise, said Coroner Pay Gay, adding officials will know more once an autopsy is completed.

An autopsy on Morales is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, according to the coroner's office.
