A Dover Township man told police that a pair of apparent do-gooders who were giving him a ride attempted to rob him late Sunday night.

The 48-year-old man told Northern York County Regional Police that he was walking along Roosevelt Avenue near Church Road in Manchester Township when, just before midnight, a dark colored Jeep Cherokee pulled up and its driver offered him a ride, police said.

The man got in but was greeted by another man sitting in the backseat who was armed with a handgun and demanded money, police said.

The would-be victim, who was not injured, was able to jump from the SUV and ran into a nearby field, police said.

The driver of the Jeep is described as a tall man with a medium build between the ages of 20 and 30. The gunman is described as a tall man with a thin build between the ages of 20 and 30, police said.
