LENHARTSVILLE, Pa. — A fiery crash involving multiple vehicles has killed three people, including two from York County, on Interstate 78 in Berks County on Monday.
State police say 57-year-old Edward Dearden and 54-year-old Theresa Dearden, both of York, along with 52-year-old Robert Rosner of Allentown were killed in the crash.
The crash was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Monday on the eastbound side of the highway in Greenwich Township, according to state police.
Seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, were involved in the crash.
Investigators said the tractor-trailer was attempting to pass a slow-moving box truck in the right lane and struck a car. That triggered a chain-reaction crash involving those three vehicles and four others, several of which burst into flames.
The crash left numerous people injured in the crash. The survivors include a Gettysburg man, identified by state police as 37-year-old Frank Burns.
Emergency crews from Berks and Lehigh counties responded to the scene.
The highway near the accident scene was shut down for several hours.
