Motorists will see changes to traffic patterns as well as an off ramp opening and another closing on Interstate 83 in Cumberland County this week as part of an ongoing construction project.

Crews will shift northbound traffic onto a newly widened portion of the highway and will open a new off ramp, Exit 41-B, to Lowther Street in Lemoyne on Thursday night. The current Exit 41-B will be closed at the same time, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

On Friday night, crews will shift the southbound lanes of I-83 to the current temporary northbound lanes, creating a work zone to widen the southbound lanes, the release says.

Southbound motorists will no longer have access to Exit 41-B and should instead use Exit 42, the release says.

Crews on Saturday will alter traffic patterns on the ramp from eastbound Route 581 to I-83 southbound and the exit to Lowther Street. Once that happens, motorists on Route 581 should use Exit 6-C to Lemoyne to access the borough and I-83, the release says..

The work is part of an ongoing $22.1 million project being handled by J.D. Eckman Inc. of Chester County to make improvements to the I-83/Route 581 interchange and adjacent ramps.
