Today's onslaught of rain has caused some schools in the southern end of the county to dismiss students early.

Southern York County School District schools will dismiss early because of the threat of flooding in the area, said superintendent Thomas Hensley.

"We're having some flooding in some of our roads," he said. "And with the heavy rain anticipated this afternoon, we wanted to dismiss early this afternoon to get students home safely."

Secondary schools will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m., and elementary schools will be dismissed at 1 p.m. There will be no after-school or evening activities.

Schools in the South Eastern School District will also dismiss early, according to the district's website.

Secondary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m., and elementary schools will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.
