A Cumberland County man was working at York County Prison at the time of his arrest earlier this month on drug charges, according to police.

Marino Anthony Magaro, 24, was arrested after he allegedly sold marijuana to someone during an undercover operation in Fairview Township on April 9, said Lt. Jason Loper, acting chief of the township's police department.

It's not known if he is still working at the prison.

At some point Magaro was a prison guard but had been moved to a supervisor position in the prison's kitchen, Loper said.

"At least at one time he was a guard there," Loper said.

Allegations: After Magaro allegedly sold the marijuana to an individual during a police investigation, officers searched his home in the 5000 block of Ravenwood Drive in Mechanicsburg on a search warrant, Loper said.

There they found varying quantities of marijuana, crack cocaine and ecstacy and various drug paraphernalia, police announced on Tuesday.

Despite Magaro's line of work and his alleged side work, Loper said it doesn't appear he sold at the prison.

"There's no indication that he delivered anything at the prison," Loper said.

However, the acting chief said an authority figure, such as a prison guard, operating above the law is concerning.

"Obviously that's a concern for the public, that he's (allegedly) committing these crimes," Loper said.

Magaro has been cooperating with authorities throughout their investigation, the acting chief said.

Charges: Magaro is charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to deliver and a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail after he was arraigned on April 21, records state.

Magaro's listed attorney, William Grubb, who has an office in Camp Hill, declined comment when reached by phone Tuesday.

Magaro will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Scott Gross at 10:15 a.m. on May 12, according to the court records.
