Developers for the West Manchester Mall received conditional approval from West Manchester Township officials Thursday to proceed with its land development plans.
"This gets them one step closer to being able to build," said Monica Love, township zoning officer.
Developers will not be able to move forward with outdoor construction until final approval of the plans, which is contingent upon details such as resolving lingering stormwater management issues.
The timeline for that final approval -- and the start of outdoor construction -- is still uncertain, said Sarah Gaughan, architectural project manager with Bergmann Associates, the firm handling the mall's plans.
A $47 million redevelopment is slated for the 32-year-old mall, changing the look and style to an open, outdoor plaza.
Mall owners have said anchor stores Kohls, Macy's, Regal Cinemas and Walmart will remain open during the entire construction process, and the new mall is expected to be open in time for this year's Christmas shopping season.
