Telling a student not to say something (or to say something, for that matter), is not a rule: It is exactly what Putin does in Russia and Kim Jong Un does in North Korea.

The problem with education in America so often is traced to thoughtless administrators who attempt to control what a student thinks and says. The problem is not that the administration punished the child for disobeying an instruction, but with the instruction in the first place.
