Police in Berks County say a York County teacher was arraigned Wednesday on a drug trafficking charge after police found nearly $1,000 worth of heroin in her vehicle.

Megan Butler Warner, 39, of the 700 block of Hardwick Place in York City is free on $25,000 unsecured bail, according to her court documents.

Warner was arrested Jan. 19 after an officer found heroin in her vehicle during a traffic stop, said Detective Steve Brock of Spring Township Police.

Police say an officer found 97 bags of heroin, with a street value of $970, in her vehicle.

Warner told police she transported heroin from Spring Township to the suburban York County area "numerous" times, delivering several hundred bags of heroin, Brock said.

She is a special education teacher at a middle school in York County, police said.

Brock declined to name the school where Warner works.

Warner is charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin. She was also cited with failure to stop at a red light, according to court records.

Her next court date is May 20 in Berks County for a preliminary hearing, records state.

Warner could not be reached for comment Wednesday night and it's not known if she has retained an attorney.
