A fire in the 600 block of North Pershing Avenue in York City Tuesday morning was caused by a man using a heat gun to clear paint from a wooden window, said York City Fire Chief David Michaels.

Michaels said the homeowner was working on renovations at the house, which is vacant, when the fire started around 9:22 a.m.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, which caused about $10,000 in damage and was limited to a small portion of the house, Michaels said.
