Fairview Township Police used the GPS feature on stolen cellphones to track down the person believed to have stolen items from inside vehicles parked at FedEx's facility in the township.
Police said James Allen Detter III is a former FedEx employee who worked at the Industrial Drive facility where the thefts occurred.
Detter, 19, of the 600 block of Wyndamere Road in Fairview Township, is in York County Prison on $25,000 bail, charged with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief, according to court records. His home is just a few blocks from the facility, police said.
He is accused of stealing items from nine vehicles parked in the lot overnight April 8, police said, and threw a car battery through a window of one of the vehicles.
Officers arrested Detter on Thursday and recovered much of the stolen property, according to police, who said Detter confessed.
