Gourmet burger restaurant chain Red Robin is slated to open its first location in York County later this year.

Supervisors in Springettsbury Township signed off on the land development plan during a meeting Thursday night, paving the way for Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group to move forward with its plan to build a location at the York Galleria.

"We're excited to be here in York County, opening a new location," Jim Ryan, CEO of Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group, said after the meeting.

Ryan said he expects crews to break ground in May, with construction wrapping up and the restaurant opening sometime in the fall. It will be the 21st opened and operated by the group.

New jobs: About 125 part-time and full-time employees, along with a team of managers, are expected to work at the new location, Ryan said, adding most of the jobs will be part time.

The opening of a Red Robin in York County is not only a first, its construction is also a first for the mall.

Since the York Galleria was built in the late 1980s, no other buildings have been built on its large lot, said John Luciani, township engineer.

The 6,400-square-foot eatery will be built on a large swath of the mall's parking lot near its entrance at Mount Zion Road, said David Miller, an engineer with the Lancaster-based Rettew Associates.

Supervisors unanimously approved the land development plan and storm water waivers.

Liquor license: Like most Red Robin locations, the one in Springettsbury Township will include a liquor license, allowing patrons to have an alcoholic beverage with their meals.

However, the license the group secured is in Hanover, said Jeffrey Lobach, general counsel for the franchisee and managing partner with Barley Snyder in York City.

That means supervisors will have to approve the intermunicipal transfer before the state Liquor Control Board can agree to it.

Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group has opened one Red Robin a year since 1993.

The Colorado-based chain serves more than 24 fresh, gourmet burgers in a variety of recipes, according to the company website. It also offers salads, sandwiches, soups and entrees.
