Giant Food Stores on Tuesday announced it had removed a product from shelves after a recall by Frontier Natural Products Co-Op.

Frontier recalled its organic peppercorns because of potential salmonella contamination.

Salmonella poisoning can be life-threatening. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.

The items at risk and included in the recall are the 2.12-ounce Frontier Peppercorns Black Whole organic, with UPC 8983618435 and lot codes 3246 and 3288; and 2.65-ounce Simply Organic Black Pepper Whole organic, with UPC 8983618524 and lot codes 3221 and 3262.

Giant has received no reports of illness related to the item recalled, but it is advising customers to discard unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the grocery store for a full refund, according to a news release.
