Sen. Scott Wagner, R-Spring Garden Township, has been named chairman of the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee and was given other committee assignments, his office announced Tuesday.
Wagner, who won a March 18 special election, was sworn in last Wednesday; all legislators are assigned to committees.
The Intergovernmental Operations Committee seems a fit for Wagner's ideas for government reduction, as it hears proposals that include restructuring of state government.
Wagner said in a press release the position "provides me an opportunity to promote bills designed to reduce the size of government and slash costs."
He was also named vice chairman of the Senate Aging and Youth Committee, which has this year been active reviewing bills related to child protection laws.
Wagner was also named to the Senate's Transportation, Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness, Urban Affairs and Housing, and Local Government committees.
