Police said they have arrested the apologetic bicycle-riding robber who held up a Shrewsbury business at gunpoint on March 6.
A 16-year-old male from Shrewsbury has been charged with robbing the Choice Cigarette Outlet/Exxon gas station at 4 E. Forrest Ave. just before 8 p.m., according to Southern Regional Police.
During the robbery, the teen brandished a BB gun, demanded cash, then apologized and explained he was committing the robbery because his mother was sick, police said at the time. He fled the scene on a bicycle.
Police on Wednesday said the teen told them he robbed the store to help pay bills, and that he owed his mother money.
The BB gun he used looked like a real handgun, according to police.
Police did not release the teen's name, but said he is charged as an adult and was released on $25,000 unsecured bail. That means he didn't need to post bail to be released, but could forfeit that amount if he violates bail conditions.
