A York City man told police he was shot while walking across West Princess Street Tuesday night.

Trevor Smallwood Jr., 23, of West Princess Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle during the 9:30 p.m. drive-by shooting, York City Police said.

Officers were called to the corner of West Princess and West streets, where they found Smallwood lying on the sidewalk.

Several people were standing around Smallwood, but most walked away as officers approached, police said.

Smallwood told officers he was shot while in the middle of the street, police said.

Drive-by: Witnesses reported up to four gunshots were fired from a moving vehicle that then fled the scene, according to police, who said the drive-by doesn't appear to be random.

Two parked vehicles also were hit by bullets, police said.

Smallwood was taken to York Hospital by ambulance and was listed in stable condition, police said.
