The $50 ticket for parking in York City streets during street sweeping is an unwelcome sight.

But fortunately for street-parkers, some tickets issued Saturday are a false alarm.

Between midnight and 2:30 a.m., 143 third-Saturday street-sweeping tickets were issued in error and have been voided, said Cheryl Rascoe, deputy business administrator for the city's parking bureau.

This past weekend marked the fourth Saturday of the month, and that's what caused the mix-up, she said, as crews issued tickets as if it were the third Saturday.

The confusion did not affect street sweeping, and streets were not swept erroneously, Rascoe said.

Parking crews realized the error a couple hours in, but they didn't have enough time to go back and collect the tickets, she said.

"We sincerely apologize to any citizen or resident that was affected," Rascoe said.

Motorists don't need to take any action, she said: They will receive letters in the mail explaining the incident, and they need not contact the York City Parking Bureau.
