Giant Food Stores on Wednesday announced it had removed a product from shelves after a recall by Simply Natural Foods LLC.

Simply Natural Foods recalled its Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bars because of an allergen's not being properly listed on the ingredient label. The product may contain milk protein, while the label says it may only contain trace amounts.

The allergy can cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Symptoms include hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.

The item at risk and included in the recall is the 3-ounce Simply Lite Dark Chocolate Bar, with UPC 0079020012, with lot numbers 01182015A and 01192015A.

Giant has received no reports of illness related to the item recalled, but it is advising customers to discard unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to the grocery store for a full refund, according to a news release.
