The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. on Tuesday announced its CEO will resign next year.

CEO Brendan Hoffman, who also will resign his seat on the company's board of directors, will not renew his contract when it expires on Feb. 7, according to a Bon-Ton news release.

Since 2012, Hoffman has led the retailer, which has twin headquarters in Springettsbury Township and Milwaukee.

"I am extremely proud of the Bon-Ton team and what we have accomplished since I joined in 2012. I truly enjoyed working for the company these past two years. However, I have made the difficult decision to end my tenure with the company for strictly personal reasons," he said in a news release.

Bon-Ton's Board of Directors will launch a national search to find a new CEO, according to the release.

"The advance notice (Hoffman) has given should afford the company an opportunity to find and attract a talented leader to assume the role he is vacating and ensure a smooth transition," Bon-Ton Chairman Tim Grumbacher said in a statement.

Bon-Ton operates 270 department stores throughout the country.
