An elderly person killed in a house fire in Carroll County, Md., Sunday morning.
A second elderly person was able to get out of the home in the 2800 block of Flag Marsh Road in Mount Airy, about 30 miles west of Baltimore, when it caught fire a little after 8 a.m., according to a news release from Brian Geraci, a Maryland fire marshal.
More than 50 firefighters from Mount Airy and surrounding departments responded to the fire at the two-story, wood frame home. The blaze caused $200,000 in damage, the release says.
Officials found the fire started in a first-floor living room but its cause it still under investigation by the fire marshal's office.
The body of the deceased was taken to the chief medical examiner's officer for identification and to determine the cause of death, the release says.
The home did not have working smoke detectors.
