All lanes of I-83 northbound are open Saturday morning after the state Department of Transportation had closed one lane Friday night for repairs, according to a PennDOT press release.
PennDOT had closed the lane Friday night so crews could stabilize a portion of the road near Shrewsbury about 1.2 miles north of the Maryland border, the release says.
Crews had drill holes into the pavement and pump in concrete to fill a gap that had formed under the road, according to the release. The gap was caused by a deteriorating drainage pipe more than 20 feet under the road, the release says.
PennDOT crews will do further repairs on the pipe itself in the next few weeks, the press release says..
Crews had to close down both southbound lanes in the same place for much of last weekend after crews discovered a similar — but worse &mdash problem on that side of the road.
