Former U.S. Navy three-star admiral and politician Joe Sestak has endorsed Democratic Senate candidate Linda Small, and he'll lead a Get out the Vote rally for his fellow Navy veteran in York on Sunday.

"In the Navy, leaders are accountable for the results of their actions," Sestak said in a statement. "Too many politicians today only want to be measured by their intentions, not their deeds. Retired Master Chief Linda Small will be accountable to 'We the People'. She will work hard to create good jobs, restore state funding for education, and end the unfair local tax increases burdening families."

Small is the Democratic nominee for the March 18 special election to fill the 28th Senate seat left vacant when Mike Waugh resigned in January.

"It is an honor to be endorsed for the state senate by Admiral Sestak. His accomplishments in the Navy and as a Congressman reflect his focus on getting results for ordinary people and a willingness to stand up to the special interests. I share his core commitment to being accountable to those we serve," Small said.

Small, a 53-year-old from New Freedom, said it was "an honor" to be endorsed by Sestak. She cited his accomplishments in the Navy and as a former Congressman.

The rally will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at York County Democratic Headquarters, 275 W. Market St.

The event is free and open to the public, and Small's supporters are encouraged to attend.
