Graham Packaging Co. will lay off half of its Emigsville workforce late next month.

The Springettsbury Township-based company will begin a series of layoffs Monday, March 24 at its facility at 420 Emig Road.

Some 55 full-time workers will lose their jobs, according to a notice filed with the state Bureau of Workforce Development.

"We are taking this action as part of a larger realignment of our business to address changes in the industry and to remain competitive and cost effective in the market," company Human Resources Director Karen Bradley wrote in a letter to the state department.

Graham Packaging officials did not return calls for comment.

The company currently employs 108 workers at its Emigsville facility.
